TrollHunter (2011)

TrollHunter is a Norwegian horror film (a first for me, as far as I know) that was originally released as Trolljegeren and has as self-explanatory a title as any film since SNAKES ON A PLANE.  I really enjoyed it, for the most part, as it is exciting, tense and drily funny and boasts some truly spectacular scenery.  True it uses the by now worn-out 'found footage' idea popularised by THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT but that's a quibble really.  But at least it uses its own indigenous myths, rather than importing them from elsewhere, and pays them the attention such folk tales deserve but rarely get while gently sending them up too.
